 സ്വാമിമുക്കിൽ നിന്ന് മാത്തിലേക്ക് ഉള്ള വഴിയിൽ (പയ്യന്നൂര് -1 4 കിമി)

Brief histoty Datable to very ancient period the idol is believed to have been consecrated by Prashuraama .The legend states that Mahavishnu appeared before lord Parashuraama in the same form as revealed to Gajendra in famous episode described in Gajendramoksham It  is believed that this incident happened at Haritheerthtyham ( the tank which is at 3 kms north east of this temple )Lord Mahavishnu disappeared in the tank leaving behind a beautiful idol .Lord Parashuraama searched for a suitable place to install bestowed by the Lord himself .Parashuraama noticed Garuda(the vahaana of Vishnu ) perched on atree ,where the temple now exists .He installed the the idol there and entrusted the Thanthram to Tharananelloor illam .Centuries later the idol was changedf as it had some defects .The recosecrcation ,however was not properly done as the thanthri who did it lacked the required inner strength that required for the re -consecration .Therefore as prescribed in the devaprashnam a thanthri belonged to the Tharananelloor illam was re invited with full honours and the re-installation done by conducting aavaahanam from the earlier idol that lay in the waters at Thatiyammakatav .The temple is administered nowa 14 member ooraalar committi .The valiyabalikkallu is within a detached paattoottu built in 1960 .About 100 meters south east of the temple there is a shrine dedicated to Goddess Kannyaa bhagavathi (shaanthi Durgga ).
The present thanthri belongs to Tharananelloor illam .shaanthikkaaran malayaala braamanan
